About the program
The Art Therapy concentration is designed for students who want to combine creativity with care, self-discovery, and real-world impact. It sits within the BA in Visual Art Studies (VAS) and blends studio-based art practice, psychology, and reflective learning into a truly experiential program.
From day one, students are making art, reflecting on process, and learning how creativity supports their own and others’ wellbeing. Classes are small, interactive, and studio-centred, creating a safe, supportive environment where students learn through hands-on experience, discussion, and guided practice rather than passive lectures.
This is not about memorising theory, it’s about working with materials, people, emotions, and meaning.
Highlights
- Combine creative practice with wellbeing, reflection, and care
- Learn through hands-on studio work, not passive lectures

The breadth of AAU’s arts education also equips students with skills that translate beyond traditional creative fields — critical thinking, empathy, visual literacy, and the ability to interpret human experience. This foundation can inspire diverse career paths, as seen in alumna Anna Grace Cook from the School of Journalism, Media, and Visual Arts. Anna’s work explores the intersections of the natural world, humanity, and religion, and her final AAU project examined the Book of Revelation and its visions of destruction and renewal — themes that ultimately deepened her interest in healing and care.

My Prague Experience
-
It's a great opportunity to study art in such a cultural center as Prague. The professors, often artists or important theoreticians on the Czech contemporary scene, take advantage of the vast possibilities and make their lectures outside of the classrooms. Earning the merit-based scholarship also motivates me to do my best. No other English university in Prague offers its students an education like AAU.
Marketa Hrehorova
Visual Arts Studies, Czech Republic -
AAU is more than a university, it’s a very special community that helps create special bonds with teachers and classmates. It doesn’t put you into the box but rather teaches you to be yourself and choose your own path. It gives you just enough autonomy and support to achieve your goals.
