About:

The recent visit to Ireland of President Biden to mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Good Friday peace agreement has turned an international spotlight on the relationship between the UK and the Republic of Ireland. Historically fraught, contemporary relations between Britain and Ireland are now remarkably friendly. But how do the impacts of Brexit, the precarious nature of the peace settlement in Northern Ireland and the persistence of nationalist narratives challenge that relationship? And what can the wider world learn from the failures and successes of a century of diplomacy between Dublin and London? Come and discuss these issues and bring your own questions as we host the ambassadors of Ireland and the United Kingdom at AAU on Friday 12 May.

Event:

  • 11.15 – 11.20 AM: Welcome and introductions
  • 11.20 – 11.35 AM: Ambassador Manahan remarks on recent and contemporary Anglo-Irish relations
  • 11.35 – 11.50 AM: Ambassador Field remarks
