About
Recognition of prior education is a mandatory part of full admission to accredited programs in the Czech Republic. Anglo-American University (AAU) handles this process internally at no additional cost to students, ensuring a smooth and supportive experience. Some diplomas are exempt from recognition under Czech law, including secondary school diplomas from the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia, as well as the International and European Baccalaureate. Certain university diplomas from these countries are also recognized. However, recognition is based on the diploma type—not the applicant’s citizenship. All other diplomas must go through AAU’s internal recognition process before the start of the semester.
This process involves collecting and authenticating the required documents, which must be translated into English, Czech, Slovak, or Spanish if in another language. Scanned copies should be submitted to the Admissions Office before arrival, followed by the physical originals upon arriving in Prague. If all documents are in order, internal recognition takes approximately two weeks. Once completed, students are officially admitted under Czech accreditation. Students applying for a visa can then apply or switch their visa purpose to “STUDY” with help from AAU. If a student’s diploma cannot be recognized internally, they will need to complete nostrification through the local city hall.
