Get to know Kateřina Fojtů, AAUs’ new HR Assistant, and the latest member of the HR team. Kateřina received her master’s degree at the Faculty of Business and Management at Brno University obtaining her Ph.D. in Behavioral finance shortly after.  Having been a teacher for almost 10 years, she decided to make some life changes and move to Prague in the spring of 2021! Katerina joined AAU in the summer of 2021 and is enjoying her role in HR helping her colleagues.

Why did you decide to join AAU?
I enjoy the environment here, it’s so friendly and international!

What do you do in your role as an HR assistant and what do you enjoy most about it?
As HR Assistant I’m kind of Lucie’s sidekick! I help her with everything she asks me to – dealing with paperwork, offices, contacting employees, scheduling meetings about HR-related affairs, and stamping a lot of papers. I really enjoy working with people and being in HR allows me the opportunity to interact with lots of different people.

What do you enjoy most about living in Prague?
Working in AAU is a reflection of living in Prague- It’s so international! Living here I get to meet people from all over the world, learn about them, their culture, and all their experiences through a different lens.

What are some of your interests?
I’m a huge bookworm so most of the time, I’ll be curled up with a good read! I’m just reading a book called ‘Uprdelismus’ by Jan Menděl. It is a self-development book and I would recommend it to everyone who wants to stress less about everything in their life. I also have a dog so I like to spend time outside walking him- there are so many cool spots we can go to together.

Do you prefer tea or coffee?
What a question! Hard to say, I like them both equally.

Do you speak any other languages?
I speak both English and Czech.

When you have the chance to travel, what kind of places do you like to see?
I’d love to travel through the USA. I want to visit all the big main places as well as the smaller sights people have recommended to me. After that, I’ll do it all again in Europe!

What is your favorite go-to spot for a pick-me-up or brunch?
I’m big fan of big coffees from Starbucks- I need them to start my day properly! A guilty pleasure of mine is a venti latte either with vanilla or white chocolate flavor. I can’t wait for Fall so I can drink as many Pumpkin spice lattes. However, I also love going for brunch at Bistro Café Laskavá in Vinohrady or Etapa in Karlín on the weekend.

If you see Kateřina on campus be sure to ask her what she’s been reading lately- there’s always a good recommendation!
