Anglo-American University (AAU) has announced that its Bachelor of Arts in Psychology program has officially received full accreditation from the Czech National Accreditation Bureau for Higher Education (NABHE).

The newly accredited degree builds on AAU’s longstanding engagement with psychology as an academic discipline. Psychology has been part of the university’s general education curriculum and elective offerings for many years, and in 2023, AAU introduced a psychology concentration within the BA in Humanities, Society and Culture. The popularity of that concentration, combined with student interest and a documented lack of available placements in Czech public universities, led to the development of a standalone program.

Designed to meet the requirements of the EuroPsy framework, the BA in Psychology offers both theoretical depth and practical training across a broad range of psychological disciplines. The curriculum includes core areas such as cognitive, developmental, and social psychology, as well as applied subjects like educational and organizational psychology, psychological assessment and psychological counseling. Students also receive training in research methods, psychometrics and are introduced to relevant ethical and professional standards. The program is structured to be completed in three years. To make the program more accessible to local students, the first year will be taught in Czech to those interested.

Graduates will receive a degree recognized as a Bakalář (Bc.) in the Czech Republic. U.S. recognition as a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) is expected following the completion of the accreditation process with WSCUC. They will be prepared to pursue advanced study in psychology or related disciplines, and begin careers in support roles in education, counseling, human resources, prevention, or research. Because the program is taught in English and aligned with both Czech and U.S. accreditation standards, graduates will also be well-positioned for opportunities in international institutions and businesses.

Students benefit from internship support through AAU’s Career Center, which helps connect them with professional placements both in the Czech Republic and abroad.

According to Dr. Gabriela Málková, program guarantor and a specialist in cognitively oriented developmental psychology: “This accreditation is a major milestone for AAU and for the development of psychology education in our region. We’ve created a program that asks students to think critically and engage deeply with the subject. It also prepares them to step into professional settings with confidence and a strong academic foundation.”
