AAU Students Join Global Wave of Support to Save Radio Prague International
Students and alumni from AAU’s Journalism and Media Studies Program have joined listeners from around the world in expressing their support for Radio Prague International (RPI) amid the threat of its closure.
Radio Prague International recently published messages received from its global audience following news that the service could close at the end of 2026. Among them was an excerpt from a letter written by current and former AAU students, reflecting on their experiences working with RPI through their studies:
“We are current and former students of journalism, media and communications at Anglo-American University in Prague. In several of our courses we have worked with Radio Prague International, getting to know the different language sections, studying and even contributing to their output.”
The students highlighted both the quality of RPI’s work and the value of experiencing its journalism firsthand:
“We are greatly impressed by the material produced by RPI on a wide variety of platforms and are horrified to hear that the station may be closed altogether from the end of this year. Through our cooperation with RPI and after meeting staff, we have recognised the strong personal commitment of the station’s journalists, who are working under considerable financial constraints. Their work deserves recognition and support.”
The AAU message appeared alongside contributions from listeners around the world, highlighting RPI’s international reach as it celebrates 90 years of broadcasting in 2026.
The students concluded:
“We hope that this letter will contribute to Radio Prague International’s continued recognition as a vital part of the Czech Republic’s media landscape.”
