Anglo-American University proudly supports veterans of the United States Armed Forces and their families. We accept eligible VA education benefits, including the Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) and the VA Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA) program (Chapter 35), which may provide education benefits to qualifying spouses and children of veterans.

AAU strives to provide the support needed for students to study at our university with VA benefits and create an environment that fosters their success.

Studying at AAU with your VA Benefits

All AAU’s Bachelor’s and Master’s programs and their concentrations are approved for use of VA study benefits. Detailed information about those programs can be found here.

From August 1, 2026 to July 31, 2027, the VA will pay the net tuition and mandatory fees up to $30,908.34 in U.S. dollars per academic year for students using Chapter 33 at foreign institutions of higher learning (including AAU).

AAU’s yearly tuition rates fall below this maximum, which means that you can pursue your studies at AAU with no cost to you! Our Bachelor’s degrees are also only 3 years, so you can use your remaining GI bill funds to cover our one year M.A. in International Business and Policy or the first year of our two year M.A. in International Relations and Diplomacy. After the first year in that program, eligible students can use AAU’s scholarship to subsidize the cost of tuition.

How to Apply for VA Benefits

We are here to help you access your VA benefits at AAU. Below, you can find a step-by-step guide on how to apply for VA benefits. We encourage you to begin this process as soon as you receive your acceptance letter from AAU.

  1. Apply for VA benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
  2. Request a new/updated Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the VA.
  3. Call the GI Bill Hotline (+1 888-442-4551) or visit VA.gov to receive a copy 30 days by mail (sooner by email). Sponsors needing to transfer Post-9/11 GI Bill to dependent(s) can do so through the VA or milConnect.
  4. When you have received your Certificate of Eligibility from the VA, send a copy to Clara MacPherson (SCO) at c.macpherson@aauni.edu .
  5. Once you have registered for classes, AAU will confirm your attendance at AAU with the VA.
  6. To certify with the VA, students must be full-time degree seeking in an approved program.
*Students with part-time enrollment (less than 12 credit hours) cannot be certified.
  7. For students using Chapter 33, VA payments for tuition and fees will be sent directly to AAU.
  8. Students not receiving full benefits will be responsible for any remaining balances. Any scholarships a student is eligible for will also be applied to that remaining balance.
  9. The housing allowance and the stipend for books will be sent to you via direct deposit by the VA.

NOTE: Adding/dropping credits? You MUST notify AAU of the change so we can amend your certification to the VA. Withdrawing after the drop period may affect your benefit. Please contact our office if you are considering a withdrawal.

Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA)

In addition, you may be eligible for money to help pay for your housing while you are studying. If you are eligible, the VA will pay you this allowance at the end of each month.

The VA publishes the maximum MHA payment rate for studying at foreign schools, and the rate is based on the national average for MHA. According to the VA site, the current yearly maximum is $2,396/month. Please refer to VA.gov for any updates and current rates of monthly housing benefits.

The average monthly price for a 1 bedroom apartment in the city center of Prague is $1,205.99. This means that your housing allowance should easily cover your expenses while at AAU.

Please note that if you begin your studies online for any reasons, this may affect your MHA benefit.

Funding for Books & Supplies

The VA offers students up to $1,000 each academic year to help pay for your books and supplies. At AAU, all of our coursebooks can be found free of charge in the library, which means that you can use this allowance to pay for other supplies like class technology and office supplies.

Education Benefits for Military Families (Chapter 35)

AAU also welcomes eligible spouses and children of U.S. veterans who qualify for the VA’s Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA) program, also known as Chapter 35.

For the 2026–2027 rate year, eligible students attending college or university full-time may receive $1,621 per full month of enrollment, paid directly to the student by the VA. Eligible students may receive up to 36 months of benefits, depending on their individual eligibility. This financial support can help students cover tuition and living expenses while pursuing a degree at AAU in Prague.

To learn more about eligibility requirements and current payment rates, visit the VA’s Chapter 35 benefits page and current payment rates.

Students should confirm their eligibility and the approval of their intended program directly with the VA and AAU’s School Certifying Official.

Visa Support

For students who are in need of a visa to study at AAU, we offer guidance and refer students to specialized visa agencies who can support students through the entire visa process. As AAU students, the prices for this support is discounted.

More information about these visa agencies can be found on our Visa & Residence webpage.

Student Testimonial

Screenshot 2026-10-29 at 1.50.58 pm

After graduating high school in 2020, I joined the U.S. Army in January 2021 as a Mortar Infantryman (11C). During my time in the Army, I went on two nine-month operational rotations in Europe, first to Poland and then to Romania.

What initially attracted me to AAU was the small class sizes, the career fairs, and the opportunities to connect with people and businesses internationally. Since starting at AAU, I’ve already had the chance to get involved in more than just my classes. I joined the Running Club and became Vice President of the Golf Club, which has given me opportunities to meet more people and become part of the university community.
