Open Lecture: A Vision of the Portuguese Presidency of the EU

All members of the AAU community are welcome to join His Excellency Ambassador Luís de Almeida Sampaio from Portugal for his lecture, “Europe and the World after the Pandemic – A Vision of the Portuguese Presidency of the European Union.” Among other things His Excellency Ambassador Luís de Almeida Sampaio will give his view on what it was like when his country’s President was also the President of the European Union.

This lecture is a part of Liliana De Olarte de Torres-Muga, Ph.D.‘s class IRS101/1 but all AAU staff, faculty and students are welcome to attend. Although, please note due to COVID restrictions there will be a capacity of 40 guests and the seats will be first come, first serve.


His Excellency Ambassador Luís de Almeida Sampaio is the Ambassador of Portugal to Prague since 2019. Prior to that, he was the Permanent Representative of Portugal in the North Atlantic Council, Ambassador in Berlin, Belgrade and Algiers. In 2007, he was the Middle East Peace Process Coordinator for the Portuguese Presidency of the European Union. In 2003-2004 he served as the President of the Portuguese Institute for Development Cooperation. Previously, he was the Political Advisor to the COMSFOR in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Diplomatic Advisor to the Portuguese EC Commissioner and Deputy Director of the Private Office of NATO’s Secretary General. Mr. Sampaio obtained a Law degree from the University of Coimbra.
