Josef Zaruba-Pfefferman studied Art History from at the Charles University in Prague and Music at the Academy of the Performing Arts.  He specializes in Christian iconography. In 2008 he completed his postgraduate studies /with a PhD/ on late medieval piety (The Sunday Christ). He participated in an Erasmus exchange program at the Universität der Künste, Berlin and at the Freie Universität, Berlin, later holding Fulbright Scholarship for one year. Ever since he has been working as a lecturer on many universities, including Charles university, University of Florida and others.

Until 2017 he was on the academic board of the Prague Jewish Studies., Faculty of Arts, Charles University. Since 2015-2019 he was the Chief curator of the Sculpture Line festival, installing contemporary sculptures in many European cities. 

Zaruba also works  currently at the Prague Technical University CVUT, the Department of Architecture. In 2022, he passed his habilitation process with a work related to interdisciplinary relations of Music and Fine Arts.
