It is with great sadness that the Anglo-American University in Prague announces that our friend, and former colleague, Jakub Dürr, passed away on February 16th, 2023, at the age of 46.

Jakub held the post of Czech Ambassador to Poland (since 2021); previously he was the permanent representative of the Czech Republic to the European Union (2018-2020); and he served as Vice Minister at the Czech Ministry of Education (2008-2009). As Vice Minister for European Affairs during the first Czech Presidency of the EU Council, Jakub provided important support to the then-Minister of Education Ms. Kopicová, the current Chair of the Board of Trustees of AAU.

Much earlier than all of this, however, Jakub taught for AAU as a lecturer for the School of Humanities, hired in the summer of 2001 to teach East-Central European Politics. Jakub taught this course for AAU until the Spring of 2003. At this time, he was completing his Ph.D. at the Philosophical Faculty at Palacky University, Olomouc.

Jakub Dürr was a young, passionate, and knowledgeable lecturer for AAU before he moved on to greater opportunities. He was always a kind, thoughtful man and a friend to many of us.

Obituary words contributed by Tony Ozuna, Dean, School of Journalism, Media & Visual Arts (and previously Associate Dean of School of Humanities & Social Sciences), and Miroslava Kopicová, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Anglo-American University.
