Alena Foustková graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, Czech Republic, with a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in 1982, majoring in printmaking. In 1984, she and her husband left then Czechoslovakia and immigrated to Canada.

Through studies at George Brown College in Toronto, Foustková gained further knowledge in advertising and spent over 10 years working in various Canadian ad agencies. This background proved valuable in Prague, where Foustková was hired by a multinational advertising agency, Saatchi & Saatchi, after she and her family moved back to what was now the Czech Republic in 1995.

Until 2009, Foustková worked in various multinational advertising agencies as an art director and creative director and received numerous awards for excellence in advertising. Her creative work was collected by Die Neue Sammlung in Munich, Germany, and is displayed in their permanent collection.

Since 2009, Foustková has devoted her time to the fine arts and teaching in the areas of media, advertising, and the arts. In her artwork, Foustková focuses on social and women’s issues, political topics, religion, and the effects of mass media.
