What is AAU’s Creative Writing and Storytelling Concentration?

The Creative Writing concentration is closely aligned with several existing research areas within the School of Arts and Humanities, particularly those in literary studies, cultural studies, and interdisciplinary narrative research. The program equips graduates with the ability to adapt their writing and narrative expertise to both artistic and professional contexts, making them versatile contributors across creative industries.

This concentration is built for students who want to write, create, experiment, and publish—not just study texts. From the very start, students actively produce original work, participate in workshops, and receive continuous feedback from faculty and peers.

The program blends creative labs, writing studios, and genre-focused workshops with a flexible liberal arts structure. Learning happens through doing: drafting stories, revising poems, scripting scenes, pitching ideas, and collaborating on creative projects. Small class sizes and an interactive American-style teaching model ensure that every student’s voice is heard and developed.

Struktura programu

How Does the B.A. in Humanities, Society & Culture: Creative Writing and Storytelling Work?

Complete a three-year bachelor’s degree in creative writing and story telling while earning qualifications recognized in both the United States and the Czech Republic. To graduate, students must accumulate 90 US credits (180 ECTS credits) by completing 30 courses, including an internship and a thesis.

The General Education module gives students a rich, creative playground. Courses in history, psychology, philosophy, culture, media, and communication provide endless inspiration for stories, characters, and worlds.
Instead of learning theory in isolation, students mine real ideas, social issues, and human experiences that later become material for fiction, poetry, scripts, and digital narratives. These courses help writers think bigger, write smarter, and tell stories that feel relevant, informed, and alive.

The HSC Major module strengthens the tools every writer needs: critical thinking, research, analysis, and strong communication skills. Students learn how stories work beneath the surface—how narratives shape culture, identity, and meaning.
This module supports creative work by teaching students how to read like writers, analyze narrative strategies, and apply insights directly to their own writing. The result is confident storytellers who understand not only how to read and write, but why stories matter.

ꔷ Diplomová práce – an independent research project completed in the final stage of the program under the supervision of a faculty advisor, focusing on an academic topic of the student’s choice
The concentration is fully hands-on, built around writing workshops, creative studios, and collaborative labs. Students write constantly and across genres, experimenting with voice, form, and style while building a professional portfolio.

Having passed all the required and elective courses, students complete their studies by taking the graduation examination which includes a state exam covering the contents of the major module, a state exam covering the concentration module, and a thesis defense.

Is the B.A. in Humanities, Society, and Culture: Creative Writing and Storytelling Recognized Internationally?

Udělený bakalářský titul je současně uznáván jako Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) ve Spojených státech amerických podle akreditace udělené WASC Senior College and University Commission a jako Bakalář (Bc.) v České republice podle akreditace udělené Národním akreditačním úřadem (NAÚ). Absolventi si mohou zvolit, zda budou používat titul s americkým post-nominálem nebo českým pre-nominálem.
