Grow, Learn, Explore!

Are you looking for a new adventure, an immersive learning experience, and a cultural exchange? Traveling abroad for a semester as a student is a unique experience that allows you to test out different learning environments, your comfort zone, and classes you might not have otherwise.

Erasmus exchanges are open to students studying under one of AAU’s Czech and accredited programs while university exchanges are open to everyone. AAU offers opportunities at 40+ partner universities across 24 countries worldwide. Learn more about it from those who have experienced it!

Universidad Erasmus de Rotterdam

Emma Kovarova, an AAU Curatorial Studies and Visual Arts student, spent the fall semester in Rotterdam. Read the personal recap of her Erasmus exchange experience aquí..

I decided to spend the Fall 2025 semester abroad at Universidad Erasmus de Rotterdam. The entirety of my 6-month exchange built up a part of my adult life that I have neglected for a while. The university I went to was known to be a highly achieving and quite difficult school to keep up with; however, it had a massive modern campus, with welcoming staff, great professors and interesting courses. I was able to travel around the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany quite easily, although more expensively compared to Prague. My time in Rotterdam built my resilience and independence. It was a period of pure, focused self-growth. The experience is like no other. I recommend anyone who has the time and guts to use the opportunity of the Erasmus+ grants.

Volda University in Norway

AAU Senior Lecturer Alena Foustková travelled to Volda University, Norway—one of AAU’s Erasmus+ partners—as a guest for International Staff Week. Foustková was immediately struck by the wild and unspoilt character of the landscape as she and her husband made their way through the country. She attended classes and enjoyed the hands-on nature of the teaching.

The Faculty of Media and Journalism, where visiting AAU students spend most of their time, boasts a newly constructed building with state-of-the-art facilities that include industry-standard studios, editing suites, control rooms, and cameras. Students experiment with professional equipment and really see the production process from start to finish. The university also has a socialising hub that gives students a home away from home—there is plenty of student life! Read more about Volda University through Foustková’s eyes aquí.!

University of New Brunswick & Volda University

From Canada to Norway, AAU student Iris Kreegi shares what made her time abroad unforgettable across two different continents.

Hi, my name is Iris, and I went on exchange to two places last year. During the fall semester I went to the Universidad de Nuevo Brunswick in Canada, and what I appreciated the most there was the nature, the experience I had traveling around Canada, and seeing North American life in action because I’m from Europe. During the spring semester, I went to Volda University in Norway and I also appreciated the nature there and the media orientation of the university. I would definitely recommend going on exchange because that makes you appreciate what’s good at your home university—I got to miss Anglo-American University in Prague—and it broadens your horizons so much.

Freiburg University College

AAU partnered with Freiburg University College (UCF), Germany, for a unique, literal exchange. Two UCF students spent their semester abroad at AAU, while AAU Lecturer Ebru Akcasu visited UCF to teach the pre-course Middle East in Film as part of her Erasmus teaching mobility.

UCF commented: “We love seeing our collaboration come to life – both abroad in Prague and here on campus in Freiburg!”

Universidad Atlántica de Florida

AAU student Veronika Zouharova’s exchange at Universidad Atlántica de Florida gave her more than just credits; it gave her memories for life.

Hi, my name is Veronika, and I went on exchange to Florida Atlantic University which is located about one hour away from Miami. The best part about going to Florida was experiencing American culture. I’ve never been to Florida before, so it was quite a crazy experience, but I loved it. I made so many amazing friends, had amazing professors, went to parties, and saw some of the wildlife Florida has to offer. I’d recommend it to every single student. If they’re curious and if they’re willing to take a chance, definitely do it!
