Métodos de investigación en Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales

Nombre del cursoMétodos de investigación en Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales
Código del cursoSOC290
DescripciónThe objective of this course is to introduce ourselves to the fundamentals of research in the humanities and social sciences. We include the essential characteristics of research, the major types of research approach and a range of methods and other core skills commonly adopted by researchers.
Much care is taken to consider the differences and similarities in approach between the humanities and the social sciences: the former, often about confronting timeless questions to do with human thoughts and actions; the latter, often characterized by a desire to offer valid generalizations on issues of contemporary concern. The first half of the course looks mainly at social sciences, while the second half attends more to the humanities. Through a combination of lectures, seminars and group presentations, the course will ultimately provide the student with a solid foundation upon which to base their later research projects, such as the bachelor’s thesis.
Resultados del aprendizajeAl finalizar este curso, los estudiantes deben ser capaces de:
– Comprehend and have a clear understanding of various approaches to research in the humanities and social sciences;
– Formulate a robust and satisfying research question;
– Critically understand and compare a variety of research approaches (i.e. paradigms, assumptions, questions of epistemology and ontology);
– Critically understand several widely used research methodologies, including the case study, comparative analysis, grounded theory and content analysis.
