| Popis | The course aims to introduce students to the basic theoretical approaches, key concepts, and methods of developmental psychology and to develop an understanding of human psychological development across the lifespan. In the introductory part of the course, students are introduced to the major developmental theories and approaches to research in this area. Emphasis is placed on understanding how developmental psychology produces knowledge and how these findings can be used in various areas of the psychology profession. Subsequent thematic units focus on different periods of human life, from prenatal development through childhood and adolescence to adulthood and old age. Students will gain an overview of typical developmental changes as well as individual differences in cognitive, emotional, and social function. Throughout the course, theoretical findings are regularly placed in the context of current research topics and real-life situations from psychological practice. The course promotes the development of students’ ability to think in life perspective, to understand the connections between age, environment, and psychological functioning, and to critically view developmental processes in terms of various theoretical orientations and practical applications. |
| Výsledky učení | Po absolvování tohoto kurzu budou studenti schopni: – Explain the basic terms, principles, and concepts of developmental psychology and understand the relationship between learning, development, and the environment across the lifespan. – Describe and compare major developmental theories, including theories of psychosocial, cognitive, moral, and social development, and evaluate their contributions to understanding psychological development. – Characterize key developmental periods in human life and describe typical changes in motor, cognitive, emotional, and social relationships from the prenatal period to old age. – Identify and explain the major determinants of psychological development, including the role of family, peer groups, school, culture, and biological predispositions. – Apply developmental psychological knowledge in case studies and reflect on the developmental needs of individuals at different stages of life. – Become familiar with research methods in developmental psychology and evaluate their use in the study of different developmental periods (e.g., longitudinal and cross-sectional studies, observational studies, case studies). |
