Course Description

Research in neuroscience reveals surprising insights into the adult brain and development, and this can be used to improve management and leadership practices in organizations, on several different levels.

Contrary to previous assumptions, this research into the psychology of adult development confirms that, as we grow older, we actually have the potential to become better at managing complex issues, and integrated and innovative thinking. We can also improve several other skills which, in today’s competitive world, just might make a difference between success and failure.

The content of the course is divided into several theoretical and practical parts, based on the expertise and literature in the field of neurology (Sandra Bond Chapman, Tara Swart), organizational psychology (George Kohlrieser, Robert Kegan, Jennifer Garvey Berger), management theory and leadership (Jean-Francois Manzoni, Amy Edmondson, Jim Collins). The course includes case studies of methods employed by successful leaders and businesses (such as Ray Dalio / Bridgewater Associates or Reed Hastings / Netflix).

The follow up course to this topic is “Intergenerational Management”. For more information about this course, please click here.

See what our students have to say

We do almost all of our projects in small international teams, and we work together like we would in a business company and synergize our different ideas. There's flexibilities to meet with teachers outside of class, and ask them questions, not just specifically things we learn in the class.

AAU makes networking incredibly easy to do. I was able to participate in various events that don't necessarily connect to my coursework like conferences, literature festivals, debates, lectures, etc. When I was President of the Diplomatic Club, AAU helped me get in touch with event-organizers, which, for example, allowed us to host an event during the Festival of Democracy organized by the famous Forum 2000 conference.
