Course Description
The latest research in neuroscience and psychology of adult development reveals surprising insights into the adult brain and behavior, which can be used to radically improve management and leadership practices in organizations on several different levels.
Contrary to previous assumptions science shows that as we grow older. we have the potential to become better at integrated and innovative thinking as well as at managing complexity. We can also improve several other skills which, in today’s competitive world, just might make a difference between success and failure.
The content of the course is divided into several parts, based on the expertise and literature in the field of brain science (Sandra Bond Chapman, Tara Swart), organizational psychology (George Kohlrieser, Robert Kegan, Jennifer Garvey Berger), management theory and leadership (Jean-Francois Manzoni, Amy Edmondson, Jim Collins).
Learning Outcomes
- Improve higher-level executive faculties like priority setting and decision making
- Become more efficient at managing energized, well-functioning teams
- Learn to identify and focus on what really matters to achieve higher productivity
Methodology
The online workshop combines lecture sessions, discussions, and case studies. Interaction between participants and the instructor is encouraged through the online platform NEO.

The course uses two fictional characters: Zuzana (43), female, Polish, based in London, HR manager for Stream, a blue-chip MN entertainment company; and Jan (35), male Czech, based in Prague, IT manager for TechBC, a growing Central European communications technology company; in order to illustrate the importance of the business situations, decision making and leadership.

Senior International Management Consultant
Dr. Klvaňa was a Shorenstein Fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University (2003). In 2012 he received the Distinguished Leadership Award for Internationals from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Dr. Klvaňa served as the Press Spokesperson and Policy Adviser for President of the Czech Republic, Special Government Envoy for Communications of the Missile Defense Program, and between 2005 and 2010 he worked in various CSR and Regulatory Management functions with British American Tobacco in London, Hamburg, Prague and Brussels. He is also a co-founder of the Aspen Institute Prague.He holds a Ph. D. from the University of Minnesota in the U.S. (1997) and an M. A. from Charles University in the Czech Republic. Currently, he is a senior international management consultant and a leadership coach, and an instructor at the AAU Academy. He is a co-founder and managing partner of a Singapore-based start-up, Extend My Runway.
