Anglo-American University in partnership with the Czech Mediation Service will host an international conference including multiple acclaimed experts on the topic of restorative justice. The conference is titled, "Visegrad Group 1989 – 2019: On the Road to Restorative Justice?"

The conference will provide for an expert platform for the Visegrad Group countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) to discuss the status quo, challenges and advancements related to the development of restorative justice in Europe and in the V4 region in the last 30 years. The conference will also mark the 30th anniversary of the fall of the communist regime in Central and Eastern Europe. The conference is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Justice of the Czech Republic.

Anglo-American University in Prague has been leading the way when it comes to integrating restorative justice into campus and university policies.

Especially interesting for the AAU community are the following two sessions:

  • Starting at 16:45 AAU Dean of Students, Ana Hernandez Blackstad and AAU's Law Program Chair, Mediator and Restorative Justice Facilitator Carollann Braum will host a workshop discussing Restorative Justice on Campus. The discussion will cover AAU's new Restorative Justice policy, as an example, and explore the benefits of using restorative justice at universities, as well as evaluating myths and concerns about restorative justice in this context. Participants will also engage in a mock university restorative justice conference.
  • Starting at 18:00 there will be a musical concert from the Prison Band „Wsedě (Behind Bars)“. The WSEDĚ band was formed in autumn 2010. The main idea behind its foundation was to combine correctional and educational work with offenders and have preventive effect to the community. The band therefore performs within the Crime Prevention Program.
