Visa

The Student Services Center provides foreign students (non-Czechs) with the advice they need in order to obtain or extend their residence permits or student visas. Please contact Petra.Zemanova@aauni.edu  for advice.

Students from the European Union, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and certain other states do need a visa to study in the Czech Republic.  To enter the Czech Republic, EU students will only need a valid passport or national ID card.

EU citizens however must apply for a temporary residence permit if they intend to stay in the Czech Republic for more than three months.

Students from other countries (non-EU) are required to have a valid visa for their stay in the Czech Republic.  You can not apply for this visa once you are in the Czech Republic.  Instead, the visa must be applied for at the relevant Czech embassy or consulate in your home country.  It is necessary to apply for a visa as soon as you receive a letter of acceptance, as the procedure can take up to 90 days.  Each Czech embassy may require particular documents.  Please contact your local embassy for details.  However, be advised that the documents usually required include:

  • An original visa application form
  • A letter of acceptance
  • A valid passport (valid for at least half a year beyond the expiry of the visa)
  • 2 passport-sized photographs
  • Confirmation of accommodation in the Czech Republic
  • A financial contract or other document that confirms that you are financially able to support yourself in the Czech Republic (e.g. a valid internationally recognized credit card, your bank statement showing that you have suffucent funds at your disposal during your stay)
  • An official extract from the Criminal Record of the Czech Republic confirming that you have not been prosecuted and/or punished for crimes in the Czech Republic.  This form can be found at your local embassy.
  • Valid medical insurance

Extensions of student visas can be obtained in the Czech Republic.
