Anglo-American University has applied for eligibility from the Senior College Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. WASC has reviewed the application and determined that AAU is eligible to proceed with an application for Candidacy for Accreditation. A determination of eligibility is not a formal status with the Accrediting Commission, nor does it ensure eventual accreditation; it is a preliminary finding that the institution is potentially accreditable and can proceed within four years of its eligibility to be reviewed for Candidacy status with the Accrediting Commission.
The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) is one of six regional associations that accredit public and private schools, colleges, and universities in the United States. Universities accredited by WASC include, Stanford University, UC Berkeley, UC Los Angeles, and Chapman University, amongst others. WASC has established formal procedures by which institutions move through the requisite stages that lead to accreditation. These stages include Eligibility, Candidacy and Initial Accreditation. Each stage has specific criteria, processes, and time frames. In 2010, AAU was honoured to be one of the first three international schools invited by WASC for consideration.
