Mentorship Program

Welcome to the Career Center at AAU!

Connecting you to your future is our most important goal. As a future graduate of the AAU, you will want to be assured of what local and global firms are finding out every day: that a degree from Anglo-American University is your passport to the world of business.

We work hard to ensure that you have maximum exposure to entrepreneurs, agencies, non-profits, small businesses and corporate culture. In this way, you can maximize your opportunities to succeed.

While you are still enrolled, we provide you a structured internship and maintain a high-powered database of exclusive employment contacts. In addition, we bring businesses directly to campus: the 2012 inaugural seminar program will feature local business leaders engaging you in the specific field of your choice, and the spring job fair is another opportunity to network and gain advantage.

In your final semester, you may opt to participate in the mentorship program, which connects you with alumni experienced in the field of your interest. This opportunity can help you answer questions and find direction in your search for the best possible start in your career. To that end, we also maintain a jobs database, full of part- and full- time opportunities for AAU students.

Mentorship Program

Students – both current and past – are AAU’s most valuable resources. AAU’s mentorship program connects alumni with graduating students who seek practical advantages in the field of work in which the alumnus has been working.

Communication can take place exclusively by e-mail, but also by phone or in person, if both parties so desire. It is meant to take place for a few hours over a course of several weeks or months during the students’ final semester. It is not a for-credit course; it is a service overseen by the Alumni Office of AAU.

Generally, mentors help students with career building, set achievable goals, consider the students’ skill sets and advise in practical matters. The general approach of the mentorships includes:

- building a better CV for the particular field of interest;
- maintaining reasonable expectations;
- isolating needed skills;
- providing insight for entering the field;
- discussing how to cope with change.

The advisory process culminates with an action plan which the student presents to the mentor. This helps the mentor evaluate the progress of the graduating student.

For more information on the program – alumni or students who might wish to take part – please contact the Alumni Office at alumni@aauni.edu.

Jobs Database

Many local – and a few global – companies are providing vacancies specifically to Anglo-American University. Whether you are seeking part-time work during your studies or a full-time job after graduation, you will find some good opportunities in this database. AAU students have exclusive access to these postings.

Internship Database

The internship is an integral part of the AAU experience, a requirement for all graduating students. We are committed to having you placed in an internship position which reflects your interests and your goals. This database, available exclusively to AAU students, contains contact information for students in all AAU faculties.

AAU is currently revising and standardizing the paperwork necessary for completing an internship.

Testimonials

At AAU, internships mean much more than work. For many students, it is the first experience working in their field of interest. For others, it may even be the first experience working in business. Whatever the case, as these students attest, internships provide important first steps for lasting journeys.
