AboutAnglo-American University (AAU) is the oldest private university in the Czech Republic. It was founded in 1990, shortly after the collapse of communism, as the Anglo-American College (AAC) by Jansen Raichl and Dr. Vlasta Raichlová. Their vision was to create an educational institution that would combine the best of American and British academic principles with Central European traditions. AAU has consistently attracted strong credentials to its academic community. Today it prides itself with gifted undergraduate and graduate students from over 60 countries and a renowned multinational faculty trained at fine universities around the world, including Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Berkeley and others. AAU alumni have excelled in their professional careers and enjoy work worldwide in top positions in business, academia, politics, diplomacy and media.
From its inception AAU was divided into the School of Business Administration, School of Humanities and Social Sciences and School of Law. In 2006 and 2010, respectively, the School of International Relations and Diplomacy and School of Journalism were established. AAU has proudly cooperated with many foreign universities. Recently AAU has had the privilege of awarding the bachelor and master law programs with a degree from the University of London. From 2008 Chapman University, home of 2002 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences winner Dr. Vernon Smith, is awarding the AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) accredited diplomas to our MBA students. Hundreds of universities, mostly from the USA, have been sending their students to AAU for study abroad semesters, as exchange or degree seeking students. Conversely, AAU alumni have continued their studies as graduate students at highly esteemed universities like Berkeley and Stanford. AAU has operated in several different locations. In 1999, AAU established its campus in the illustrious, historic heart of Prague. The campus consists of 2 medieval palaces on Lázeňská 2 and Lázeňská 4, the site of the historic convent of the Sovereign Military Order of the Knights of Malta, and the palace at the corner of Letenská and U Lužického semináře streets. Our students are imprinted by not only their education at AAU, but also by the special beauty and spirit of these places that link us to their enriched history and culture.
 From 2005 Anglo-American University is enjoying unprecedented academic and economic growth. It has opened a wide range of graduate programs, has attracted high caliber professors and substantially broadened its own research activities. The number of registered students has multiplied without compromising the strict academic requirements for admission and study. Strong economic results have allowed AAU to make significant investments into stipend funds, campus development and enabled top administrative professionals. AAU is the first non-US university ever to be invited to apply for the WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) institutional accreditation and has successfully passed the eligibility stage. Today, AAU is clearly the leading private university in the region and one of the most respected English language higher education institutions based in a non-English speaking country.
