U.S. Ambassador addresses the AAU academic community
Anglo-American University had the honor of welcoming Mr. Richard W. Graber, the U.S. Ambassador, to its premises. Mr. Graber met with students of Anglo-americká vysoká škola, o.p.s. (AAVŠ), on the 21st of March, to discuss with them current events in world politics.
At first, Mr. Graber spoke about the mutual cooperation which takes place between the USA and the Czech Republic, underlining the fact that the Czech Republic participates eminently in the world democratization process, particularly in Cuba.
The discussion dealt with the issue of the U.S. military base, which is to be located in the Czech Republic. Mr. Graber does not believe the base will bring any increased threat. He also discussed topics regarding the visa requirements for the U.S. (which are to be cancelled) and corruption and transparency within countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Students showed their interest in American foreign policy, and were eager to discuss topics such as: the Middle East, Iran, Iraq and Northern Korea. They also questioned the U.S.’s vision to end the war on terrorism. One AAVŠ student currently enrolled in the International Relations and Diplomacy program said: “I found it really interesting to meet an Ambassador on our campus. I am glad because we could talk with somebody who already acts in diplomacy, especially concerning those current topics such as visa policy or the radar location. I hope that similar opportunities will appear, for instance, with other countries' representatives or NGO members."
“Welcoming the U.S. Ambassador into our college was a great honor. For all of us it was an exceptional opportunity to meet and debate with a top diplomat and a representative of a country, which is significantly represented by many of our students and lecturers and connected to the academic tradition of our school. That the Ambassador managed to find some free time in his busy schedule to visit students here at AAVŠ is evidence of the importance that the U.S. places on education and multicultural cooperation," said Mr. Alan Krautstengl, AAVŠ President.
