General Areas of Research & Teaching Interest: 18th–20th Century European Philosophy & Social Theory; Cultural Theory; Modern & Postmodern American, British and European Literature; Film History and Theory.
Research Project, The Eternal Return: This work explores how philosophical concepts created during the Enlightenment epoch by figures such as Spinoza, Rousseau, and Kant, were applied practically and experimentally during the 19th century by key exponents of Romanticism (i.e., Shelley, Hölderlin), and assesses the aftermath of these experiments up through the Post-Enlightenment epoch.
Research Project, The Last Man: This work explores the lives and thoughts of a group of thinkers and writers surrounding the French philosopher Georges Bataille during the 1930s through 1950s (Colette Peignot, André Masson, Michel Leiris, Roger Caillois, Patrick Waldberg, Georges Ambrosino, Maurice Blanchot, Dense Rollin), exploring Bataille andhis circle's attempts to apply theoretical insights to socio-political action through their exploration of the sacred, erotism, and the negative.
