The Visual Poems of Alexander Jorgensen - LOVE ENDS & BEGINS HERE

We would like to cordially invite you to the opening of the exhibition The Visual Poems of Alexander Jorgensen - LOVE ENDS & BEGINS HERE on Friday, July 30th at 7 pm.

On the occasion of the opening, there will be a poetry reading by Annie Brechin and Alexander Jorgensen.

The exhibition runs from July 30 - September 7, 2010.

Annie Brechin was awarded a Jerwood/Arvon Young Poets Apprenticeship in 2003 and studied with Carol Rumens, George Szirtes & Christopher Reid. Published in The Wolf, Magma, Stand, Rising & The Liberal, until recently she lived and performed in London. The Irish poet Niall O'Sullivan has described her poems as "dark and delicious."

Alexander Jorgensen has lived and worked in such disparate places as the U.S., Czech Republic, the Galapagos Archipelago, China, India and Kazakhstan. His visual poetry and writings have appeared in such publications as Van Gogh's Ear, Noon: Journal of the Short Poem, Moria, Otoliths, Drunken Boat, Sous Rature, and The Last Vispo Anthology. He was nominee for the Pushcart Prize in 2008.

Individual pieces of his work have appeared in the anthology entitled The Return of Kral Majales: Prague's International Literary Renaissance 1990-2010 and have also been exhibited this year in Atlanta (Eyedrum Art & Music Gallery), Ontario (Common Ground Art Gallery in conjunction with Rampike Magazine), and Moscow (L-Gallery). He currently resides in Munich, Germany.

Visual poetry scholar Karl Kempton has said the following of Alexander Jorgensen’s visual poetry: “Jorgensen carries on what I consider to be an important lineage of American visual poetry. That is to say, he composes along Patchen’s trajectory. He does so not as a copier but as a continuer with his unique evolving use of a deeper American visual poetry shaped and shaded by his long residence in a variety of diverse cultures and nations...His works are a log of seeking out the truth of our human condition. Some point to the consequences of our darker nature, others to the Beauty Way in which we are all surrounded by and immersed in.”

Please come join us for this special evening.
